Cabo Verde Airlines to Resume US Flights, Marking Historic Transatlantic Comeback

Cabo Verde Airlines is set to restore scheduled flights to the United States, ending a five-year absence from the American market.

Inaugural flights to Rhode Island’s T. F. Green International Airport in Providence are scheduled for March 31, 2026.

This marks the airline’s first transatlantic service since suspending its Boston route in 2021 due to economic pressures.

Providence previously served as Cabo Verde Airlines’ primary US hub until 2017, and the return signals renewed connectivity for West African destinations with diaspora and leisure travelers in New England.

The airline’s current fleet includes one Boeing 737 MAX, one 737-700, and two ATR 72-600s for inter-island flights. Recent certification allows the 737 MAX to operate the 4,000 km Atlantic route.

Providence airport officials welcomed the move, noting strong growth in 2025, with passenger traffic up 11% and new international destinations added.

Cabo Verde Airlines also continues to expand in Europe, with regular flights to Lisbon, Paris, and Milan.

For African tourism professionals, the restored US route offers new opportunities to promote Cape Verde as a hub between Africa and the Americas, while demonstrating how smaller carriers can successfully rebuild international networks.
