Côte d’Ivoire has announced a significant reduction in aviation fees, cutting passenger and security charges by 25% for flights within the Economic Community of West African States, according to an official government statement released Wednesday.
The decision was formalized through three newly adopted decrees that aim to lower and standardize charges across different categories of air travel.
These include domestic flights, routes within Africa, and international flights beyond the continent.
Authorities said the move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness of the national airline, Air Côte d'Ivoire, as well as improve the appeal of the country’s public airports.
The reforms are also designed to bring Côte d’Ivoire in line with regional aviation policies.
In particular, they reflect efforts to comply with common aviation charges and tax rules agreed upon by ECOWAS member states in December 2024.
Officials expect the reduction in fees to encourage greater regional connectivity, lower travel costs for passengers, and strengthen Abidjan’s position as a key aviation hub in West Africa.
