Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the Arjo Coal Processing Factory is playing a vital role in the country’s industrial development by meeting domestic demand for crushed stone that would otherwise need to be imported.
In a post shared on X, the Prime Minister noted that the facility supplies essential raw materials to key sectors, including cement, iron, and construction, supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth.

He added that the project demonstrates how the country can advance industrialization by leveraging modern technology while ensuring environmental protection.
Coal has long been a critical resource for Ethiopia’s industrial sector, providing energy and raw materials essential for cement, steel, and other heavy industries.

Ethiopia has previous experience in coal processing and utilization, and the Arjo factory builds on this foundation by enhancing local production, reducing import dependency, and creating jobs.
By developing coal responsibly and integrating modern processing techniques, the factory serves as a model for sustainable industrial growth and reflects Ethiopia’s broader strategy to harness natural resources for economic development and infrastructure expansion.
