Ethiopian Airlines has committed to acquiring 11 additional Boeing 737-8 aircraft, strengthening its regional and international network.
The agreement, signed at the Dubai Airshow, further expands Africa’s largest Boeing backlog.
“We are thrilled to announce this order for 11 Boeing 737-8s,” said Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO. “These aircraft support our long-term growth strategy and enhance our ability to deliver high performance and passenger comfort. Our partnership with Boeing continues to grow, and we look forward to operating Boeing airplanes for years to come.”
The 737 MAX fleet plays a key role in Ethiopian’s operations across Africa, the Middle East, India, and Southern Europe—where reliability, fuel efficiency, and quick turnaround times are essential.
“Ethiopian Airlines' decision to expand its 737 MAX fleet underscores its leadership in Africa,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing. “This agreement also highlights our nearly 80-year partnership as the airline continues to connect Africa with the world,” Ethiopian Airlines said in a press release.
Ethiopian Airlines operates the largest Boeing fleet in Africa, with significant orders for the 737 MAX, 777X, and 787 Dreamliner.
A global aerospace leader, Boeing supports customers in more than 150 countries through advanced commercial aviation, defense, and space systems.
Ethiopian Airlines remains one of Africa’s strongest aviation success stories, serving over 160 passenger and cargo destinations worldwide.
With a modern fleet and its Vision 2035 strategy, the airline aims to become a top global aviation group while expanding its multi-hub presence in Togo, Malawi, Zambia, and the DRC.
