Morocco to Expand Tangier Med Port Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco is set to expand Tangier Med Port’s passenger terminal in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Portugal and Spain.

The port, currently handling about 30,000 passengers daily, aims to double its capacity to 60,000.

The expansion, expected to be completed by 2028–2029, will also enhance truck handling and industrial facilities.

Tanger Med, located on the Strait of Gibraltar near Tangier, is a major global logistics hub connecting to 186 ports worldwide.

The port supports over 900 companies across sectors including automotive, aeronautics, textiles, logistics, and trade, generating $8.3 billion in business.

It handles nine million containers, seven million passengers, 700,000 trucks, and one million vehicles annually, reinforcing Morocco’s strategic position in global commerce and investment.
