Tanzania Allocates Sh900 Billion to Upgrade Dar es Salaam Infrastructure

The Tanzanian government has injected Sh900 billion to tackle major infrastructure challenges in Dar es Salaam, focusing on deteriorating roads, bridges, and recurrent flooding, especially during the rainy season.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila said the funding is part of nationwide development efforts and aims to improve mobility and public services in the commercial capital.

He noted that flooding has repeatedly cut off key routes such as Jangwani Road, a vital economic link to the city center, prompting the government to implement long-term solutions through major bridge projects.

According to Chalamila, the Kigogo Bridge cost Sh17.7 billion, the Jangwani Bridge Sh67 billion, and the Mkwajuni Bridge Sh11 billion, while Kongowe Road is being widened and reconstructed at a cost of at least Sh54.5 billion, with works 25% complete.

He added that under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project Phase II, TARURA has signed 21 contracts to build 158 kilometers of roads worth Sh43.8 billion, urging residents to cooperate to ensure timely and quality completion.
