Shabeely Resort, a flagship project under the Dine for Generations initiative, was officially inaugurated today near Jigjiga, the capital of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
The inauguration on Saturday was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Somalian President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, regional authorities, and invited guests. The resort spans 385 hectares of integrated tourism development.

Shabeely Resort features three restaurants with a 400-guest capacity each, cultural venues, high-tech meeting halls, children’s playgrounds, a 15.4 km network of shaded walkways, a 10,000-tree Fruit Park, an authentic camel park, and 51 completed keys with world-class hospitality facilities.
During the event, the three leaders were seen walking through the streets of Jigjiga, greeted by cheering crowds in a display of camaraderie.

The Dine for Generations initiative, launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, aims to develop eight sustainable, world-class tourism sites across Ethiopia’s regions, including Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Oromia, SNNP, Somali, and South West.
The program seeks to boost tourism, create jobs, attract foreign currency, and promote economic and social development.

Tourism is officially recognized as one of the five key pillars—alongside agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and ICT—in Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform agenda.
This strategic focus leverages Ethiopia's rich cultural, historical, and natural resources to boost foreign exchange earnings, create jobs, and foster sustainable economic development.
