Ethiopia and China Strengthen Development Cooperation

Ethiopian Finance Minister Ahmed Shide met with Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai, during which the two sides signed a 200 million RMB development cooperation grant agreement. Discussions focused on ongoing and future Ethiopia–China projects, including financing priority development initiatives such as Ethiopia’s new international airport.

Minister Shide expressed gratitude for China’s continued support through public project financing and foreign direct investment, emphasizing Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening the longstanding partnership.

Ambassador Chen Hai reaffirmed China’s support for Ethiopia’s development, highlighting projects like the AI Sovereign Model and Application Project, the Ethio–Djibouti Railway supplementary works, and collaboration under the Comprehensive Agreement on Development and Economic Partnership for Africa (CADEPA).

The grant will fund “small but beautiful” projects designed to deliver quick, tangible benefits to the Ethiopian people.
