At the opening of the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure as a driver of Africa’s growth.
He noted that Ethiopia established Africa’s first AI Institute in 2020 and is now preparing to launch an AI University, designed to combine human values with machine intelligence, promote applied research, and position Africa as a global contributor in the age of intelligence.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Ethiopia is strengthening continental connectivity through Ethiopian Airlines, the construction of Africa’s largest airport, and Ethio Telecom’s expansion across Africa, bridging the digital divide and linking markets.
He stressed that sustainable growth requires diversified access and regional cooperation, including reliable access to the sea.
Abiy framed these initiatives within a broader vision of African unity, resilience, and sovereignty, asserting that every river, city, and digital platform must create opportunity, stability, and dignity, in line with Agenda 2063.
