The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has officially launched nationwide voter registration ahead of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, scheduled for June 1, 2026.
The move marks a key step in strengthening the country’s democratic process and promoting citizen participation.
NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu confirmed that all logistical and administrative preparations are complete, with registration running for one month through both digital and in-person systems.

Citizens can register using the “Mirchaye” (My Election) app or at polling stations equipped with tablets provided by the Board, prioritizing digital registration in areas with 3G or higher coverage.
So far, 47 political parties have registered a total of 10,934 candidates, including 2,198 for the House of Peoples’ Representatives and 8,736 for Regional Councils, along with 73 independent candidates.

All parties have signed the Candidates’ Code of Ethics, promoting responsible campaigning and transparency.
The voter registration process highlights Ethiopia’s ongoing commitment to credible, inclusive, and transparent elections, reflecting progress in strengthening electoral institutions and public confidence.

Analysts say the 2026 vote is a milestone for democratic governance in Africa, demonstrating the resilience and evolution of Ethiopia’s political system.
