Ethiopia and Burundi share long-standing diplomatic relations rooted in African solidarity and cooperation within regional and continental frameworks such as the African Union.

The two countries have increasingly focused on strengthening ties in trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and capacity building.
This cooperation was further advanced during the recently concluded Second Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Addis Ababa, which reviewed and expanded areas of bilateral partnership.
The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in defence, health, education, water and energy, agriculture, trade, digital transformation, and tourism.
The JMC reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening practical cooperation and translating shared interests into concrete development outcomes, while supporting broader goals of regional integration and sustainable development.
