African Heads of State and senior officials are attending the swearing-in ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Kampala, Uganda, marking the beginning of another presidential term for one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, continues to emphasize stability, economic transformation, and regional cooperation as central pillars of his leadership.
The ceremony has drawn high-level participation from across the region, underscoring Uganda’s diplomatic ties and Museveni’s longstanding role in East African and broader continental politics.

Among the attending leaders are Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie, Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi, and South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, alongside IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu and other officials and dignitaries.
Ahead of the ceremony, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni shared a message on X highlighting Uganda’s progress and future priorities.

He noted that while the country has made significant strides in peace and stability, the next phase will focus on economic expansion and improving livelihoods.
“Uganda’s journey has been long, but steady. The peace, security and progress we enjoy today are the foundation on which we must now build more jobs, better services, stronger markets and greater household incomes,” he said.
He added that the new mandate represents a responsibility to serve Ugandans with discipline and commitment, while protecting past gains and driving further development.
