South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will undertake a State Visit to Botswana from 20–21 May 2026, following an invitation from President Duma Boko, the Government of Botswana announced.
During the visit, President Ramaphosa and President Boko will co-chair the 6th Session of the Botswana–South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Gaborone on 21 May 2026.
The session will be preceded by meetings of senior officials and ministers from both countries.
The two countries maintain strong bilateral relations, with cooperation spanning trade, energy, security, and regional integration.
South Africa remains Botswana’s largest trading partner and a key partner in development initiatives across Southern Africa.
The upcoming BNC session is expected to strengthen cooperation in areas including water management, energy, corrections and prison services, tourism, science, and innovation.
Several bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed.
While in Botswana, President Ramaphosa is also scheduled to visit the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) to assess joint efforts in addressing animal disease control, including Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
In addition, the two leaders will participate in the Botswana–South Africa Business Forum, which will bring together private sector representatives to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic partnerships.
