As part of his state visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundian President and Acting Chairperson of the African Union, Évariste Ndayishimiye, held a one-on-one meeting with his counterpart, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, in Kinshasa.

The two leaders subsequently engaged in bilateral discussions, focusing on security and development challenges in the Great Lakes region, with special attention to the ongoing situation in eastern DRC.

President Ndayishimiye reaffirmed Burundi’s commitment to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at restoring sustainable peace and countering armed groups operating in the region.

The talks also emphasized strengthening cooperation mechanisms, including the revival of the Great Joint Cooperation Commission, to enhance collaboration in security, trade, infrastructure, energy, health, and education sectors.

Both leaders underscored the strong relations between Burundi and the DRC, expressing a shared commitment to advancing peace, stability, and regional integration for the benefit of their peoples and the wider Great Lakes region.

Following the talks, the Presidential Couple of the Democratic Republic of Congo hosted an official dinner in honor of the Burundian Presidential Couple along the banks of the Congo River.

The evening, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, featured celebrations of cultural ties, including performances inspired by Congolese Rumba, reflecting the rich heritage of the DRC.

The gala event served as a moment of unity and exchange, highlighting the mutual commitment of both nations to deepen friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
