Libya’s eastern-based military forces have signed a contract with a Turkish company to manage and monitor a section of the country’s land borders, as part of efforts to strengthen border security and combat cross-border threats. The agreement covers the first phase of an integrated border management project.

The project, developed under the eastern forces’ “Vision 2030” framework, will initially cover 275 kilometers of Libya’s land borders. Authorities said the initiative aims to improve surveillance capabilities, enhance security coordination and address challenges including smuggling, arms and drug trafficking, illegal migration and transnational crime.

The contract was signed with a Turkish company identified during the ceremony as “IKTECHNIK,” although further details on the agreement’s cost, timeline and implementation arrangements have not been disclosed.

The move comes as Libya continues efforts to strengthen control over its vast borders, with security management remaining a key challenge due to the country’s strategic location linking North Africa with the Sahel region.
