The African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has welcomed the signing of a Joint Engagement Agreement between Equatorial Guinea and Gabon on the implementation of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgment of May 19, 2025.
Signed on the sidelines of the 49th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council in Addis Ababa, the agreement aims to advance the peaceful resolution of the countries’ territorial dispute through dialogue, cooperation, and good neighbourly relations.

“This Agreement reflects a shared commitment to dialogue, cooperation, good neighbourliness and the peaceful resolution of disputes in the spirit of African unity,” said the Chairperson.
AU officials, including Executive Council Chairperson Édouard Bizimana and AU Special Envoy Albert Shingiro, attended the signing ceremony.
Youssouf said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in the spirit of African unity.
