Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, received a high-level South Sudanese delegation from the Abyei Committee, led by Minister of East African Affairs, Pieng Deng Kuol, this morning.
The delegation also included Akuei Bona Malual, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, among others.
The South Sudanese delegation briefed Minister Gedion on the overall situation in South Sudan, with particular focus on the developments in the Abyei region.

Ethiopia, as a key regional partner and a major contributor to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), continues to play a vital role in promoting peace and stability in the area.
The delegation also extended congratulations to Ethiopia on the successful inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Minister Gedion, in turn, expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for attending the GERD inauguration and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s steadfast commitment to South Sudan’s peace and development.
He further highlighted the importance of strengthening infrastructural connectivity and regional integration as essential pathways to shared prosperity and stability across the Horn of Africa.
