The first African Media Awards will take place in Addis Ababa on 4 December 2025, recognising outstanding journalism and storytelling from across the continent.

The event aims to showcase African narratives and promote media excellence in both traditional and digital platforms.

Organized by a coalition of key Pan-African institutions, including the African Union of Broadcasting and the Patrice Emery Lumumba Foundation, the event underscores Africa's growing influence in the global media arena and reinforces the vital role of the press in shaping socio-political change and promoting cultural unity.

Together, they hope to celebrate the contributions of media professionals shaping Africa’s voice in global discourse.

Nine categories have been created to reflect the diversity and evolution of African media. These include outstanding news report, interview, documentary, current affairs programme, Afro-centric entertainment, video production, social media video, social media video on current affairs, and short social media video.

The   awards mark a historic milestone in recognizing and celebrating Africa's media landscape.

This prestigious event not only highlights exceptional journalism but also amplifies African voices, offering a platform for storytelling that reflects the continent’s rich diversity and evolving narratives.

By honoring excellence across traditional and digital media, the awards aim to elevate African journalism on the global stage, shaping the future of media discourse in the continent and beyond.
