The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is delivering major economic gains for Morocco, with projected benefits estimated at 12 billion dirhams (about $1.2 billion), according to Moroccan media reports.
Between 600,000 and one million visitors have travelled to host cities, significantly boosting demand for hotels, restaurants, transport services and local businesses, with hospitality and retail sectors reporting record activity.
Years of investment in stadiums, transport infrastructure and urban facilities are paying off, positioning Morocco as a leading destination for major international sporting events with long-term economic impact.
National carrier Royal Air Maroc is transporting at least 500,000 fans, generating an estimated 1.5 billion dirhams in additional revenue after increasing flights to participating countries and key European diaspora hubs.
Beyond its economic impact, AFCON 2025 is enhancing Morocco’s global profile, reinforcing its soft power credentials and strengthening its readiness ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
